Synopsis
Conan travels south through the Border Kingdoms in the region known
as the Haunted Land. He is being followed by Yemli, humanoid demons who
are keeping their distance, but herding Conan to some unknown
destination. Eventually, they send him to Merdoramon, a magician who
tasks Conan with taking a magical amulet to Themas Herklar, regent of
Phalkar, to the east. A bag of gold makes the deal attractive to Conan,
and he falls asleep to find the odd magician gone in the morning. Conan
begins the journey and enters the small village of Sfanol, where he sees
a girl, Stefanya, in the process of being burned at the stake for her
service to the sorcerer Zoqquanor. Never one to let a pretty girl die,
Conan rescues her and discovers that the girl is mystically bonded to
Zoqquanor, and though the sorcerer has died, she must ensure the safety
of Zoqquanor’s remains lest she die herself. They head to Zoqquanor’s
keep, which was recently razed by the villagers, only to find the place
protected by the living statue Shokkoth of the Many stones. Conan
manages to use the chemicals in Zoqquanor’s lab to melt the creature
into its component stones, and in the next room, they find the body of
Zoqquanor, and Stefanya vows to return the sorcerer to life.

Locations:
- Kamula
Synopsis
Kull leads the army of Valusia in battle against the Zarfhaanan army outside the city of Kamula.

For the first time we get to see Kull not solo, or with just a band of Red Slayers, but at the head of the entire Valusian Army. There is also some court intrigue going on behind the scenes that may have something to do with the origins of the conflict.
The Zarfhaanans make an interesting opposition. They do not follow the rigid battle tactics of the Valusians, yet the male Zarfhaanans are merely the first wave of attackers, followed by the elite combat troops – the Zarfhaanan women.
Zarfhaana seems to be a matriarchal society led by – and here’s where it gets really interesting – Queen Veria. She has a dominatrix-like bearing, wears a skimpy outfit except for white furs and a cape, goes by the name ‘The White Queen’, and even causes Kull to see illusions (via witchcraft rather than a mutant power).

Synopsis
Tossed into the dungeons of Patanga to await ritual
sacrifice to Yamath, Thongor and Sharajsha meet Sumia, the Sarkaja of Patanga,
and a prisoner in her own dungeons. It seems the yellow druids led by Vaspas Ptol
killed her father and usurped the rule of Patanga. Seeking to further his
conquest, Vaspas Ptol tried to wed Sumia, but three times she refused, so had her sentenced to the altar rather than the harem.
Unable to cast spells with his hands bound, Sharajsha said they must await a chance to
escape. Dragged to the altar, Sumia was offered one last chance and she spit in
the archdruid’s face. While the guards were occupied with Sumia, Thongor broke
free of his bonds and seized the blades which were to be immolated with him.
Sharajsha freed, the two rescued Sumia, but found themselves surrounded until the
superstitious Patangans were driven to their knees by the Nemedis, piloted by
Karm Karvus, soaring down from the heavens to rescue the trio.
