Synopsis

Kang the Conqueror comes to rule Earth.

The Avengers attack and are beaten and captured, apart from the Wasp. 

She and Rick Jones form a plan and get onto Kang’s ship and free the Avengers. 

The Avengers battle Kang again and manage to defeat him by destroying his suit which controls all his weapons. 

Kang is forced to flee back into his time.

• In this issue, Captain America’s shield is mistakenly described as being made of “steel.”
• Thor was last seen in Journey Into Mystery #108 (in Italy in THC #13) battling Loki to save Jane Foster.
• Giant Man and the Wasp were last seen in Tales to Astonish #59 (in Italy in URC #43), where they battled the Hulk. They also made a brief appearance in Journey Into Mystery #108 (in Italy in THC #13), where they attempted to aid Thor’s battle with Loki.
• Iron Man last appeared in Tales of Suspense #57 (in Italy in DEVC #41) where he battled Hawkeye. He also made a brief appearance in Journey Into Mystery #108 (in Italy in THC #13) attempting to aid Thor in his battle against Loki
• Although this is Kang’s first appearance under the guise of Kang the Conquerer, as he states in this issue, he was formally known as Rama-Tut. A time-traveler from the year 3000, who was originally trapped in ancient Egypt. He battled the Fantastic Four before escaping into the present back in Fantastic Four #19 (in Italy in F4C #14). In Fantastic Four Annual #2 (in Italy in F4C #27), Rama-Tut ran into Dr. Doom, and this inspired him to take on his guise as Kang the Conquerer.
• The Teen Brigade last appeared in Avengers #6.
• Following his defeat, Kang would appear again in Avengers #11 (in Italy in THC #18 or VENDGIGC #4), although his future counterpart Immortus would battle the Avengers in Avengers #10 (in Italy in THC #17 or VENDGIGC #4). Kang is a major nemesis to the Avengers, as well as the Marvel Universe. He continues to have numerous appearances in Marvel Comics.
• Thor will appear next in Journey Into Mystery #109 (in Italy in THC #14).

Synopsis

Baron Zemo, the Executioner and the Enchantress scheme on how to defeat the Avengers. 

They notice in the news that Simon Williams, arrested for embezzling money, blames Tony Stark. They agree to help him get revenge on Stark as Iron Man is his bodyguard (they are unaware they are one and the same). They take Williams to the Amazon jungle. 

Baron Zemo, the Executioner and the Enchantress have taken Simon Williams to the Amazon jungle and with an extraordinary strenghtening machine makes him all-powerful, but to keep him under control, Zemo poisons him and only he knows the antidote. 

They stage a battle against the Avengers in that Wonder Man comes and aids the Avengers to earn their trust. 

He then explains the illness he has and the Avengers help to find a cure. 

The Wasp is taken captive and the Avengers go to save her only to be betrayed by Wonder Man. 

The Masters of Evil come very close to defeating the Avengers when Wonder Man decides to betray them as the Avengers did all they could to save him even though they didn’t know him. 

Wonder Man saves the Avengers then subsequently dies from the poison.

• Thor is last seen in Journey Into Mystery #109 (in Italy in THC #14) where he battled Magneto.
• Giant Man and Wasp were last seen in Tales to Astonish #60 (in Italy in URC #44) where they battled the Beasts of Berlin, they also made a brief appearance in Tales of Suspense #58 where they help capture the Chameleon
• Captain America was last seen in Tales of Suspense #58 (in Italy in DEVC #42), where he is knocked out by the Chameleon who takes his place. Cap eventually revives and with the help of the Avengers defeats the Chameleon.
• Iron Man was also last seen in Tales of Suspense 58 (in Italy in DEVC #42), where he battled Kraven the Hunter and the Chameleon. The Chameleon later disguises himself as Captain America and Iron Man with the help of the real Cap, Giant Man and Wasp capture him.
• Baron Zemo, Enchantress and the Executioner were trapped between the sixth and seventh dimensions by Thor in Avengers #7 (in Italy in THC #14).
• This is the first appearance of Wonder Man, although he “dies” in this issue, he returns from the dead in Avengers #151 (in Italy in THC #198). His inert body is seen next in Avengers #102 (in Italy in THC #114).
• During the Avengers’ tests on a cure for Wonder Man’s condition, Giant-Man takes grafts of Wonder Man’s brain patterns, which would later be used to found the personality of the Vision, this is revealed in Avengers #58 (in Italy in THC #71). Perhaps as a result, when Wonder Man is revived, both he and the Vision share romantic feelings for the same woman: The Scarlet Witch.

Synopsis

Thor was leading a band of Asgardian warriors, who were riding out to stop Ghan,
“the most deadly of Storm Giants”, on his way to attack Asgard. Loki
was, of course, resentful of Thor, thinking that he should be leading
the warriors. As the battle begins, Ghan hurls a boulder at Thor, who
blocks it with his hammer, causing it to shatter. Loki does not enter
the battle, claiming that “the cunning Loki is far too clever to take
needless chances!” and stays back in safety to plot the defeat of Thor.
He then uses his magic sword to weave a spell to give Ghan the final
victory. Before the spell can work, Ghan is driven back by the
Asgardian’s arrows. As the Storm Giant is being driven further back,
they let loose their catapult, using a missile containing sleep fumes,
to incapacitate him. 

The Asgardian task force go to where the giant
should be sleeping, but find nothing. The rest of the party leaves, but
Loki remains behind, saying he wanted to search more. He then “makes a
mystic gesture” causing an eagle soaring nearby to return to the its
natural form of the giant Ghan, saving him from the wrath of Thor. The
giant then pledges his debt to Loki, and in return the Trickster reminds
him not to forget it, “the day will come when I order you to repay this
debt!” This was the first of many alliances with the forces of evil
for Loki, as he plans and schemes to overthrow Asgard and destroy Thor.
