Synopsis
While dealing with the grief of her fathers death, and Peter’s sudden
strange behavior, Gwen gets a call from her Uncle Arthur offering her
to come out to England to live with them, a decision she needs to think
about. She goes to see Peter to see if he wants her to stay, however
when she mentions her hatred of Spider-Man, it causes him to be
reluctant to tell her to stay and Gwen, hurt, leaves Peter’s apartment.
Peter then storms off and loses his temper over how his alter ego
constantly ruins his life.
Elsewhere in the city, Hobie Brown reflects on how he recently
helped Spider-Man out in a jam by impersonating Spider-Man in front of a
group of people. He recalls seeing George Stacy in the audience, and
wonders if his involvement that day has made him a potential accomplice
in the death of Stacy, and decides to bring Spider-Man to justice to
clear his own conscious.
Spider-Man meanwhile is blowing off steam by web-slinging to
determine what to do about Gwen. When he looks in on Gwen at her home,
he’s spotted and attacked by the Prowler. Their fight takes them across
the city. When the end up in an elevator shaft, the Prowler is knocked
down the shaft, and Spider-Man manages to save him from serious injury
with his webbing. He then strips off Hobie’s costume and delivers him to
a hospital and calls Hobie’s girlfriend Mindy. When Spider-Man hears
Mindy telling the unconscious Hobie that she will stick by him no matter
what, he decides that in spite of everything Spider-Man should reveal
his true identity to the woman he loves.
Swinging to Gwen’s apartment, Spider-Man finds the land lady
cleaning the place up. He learns from her that Gwen had left for the
airport to go to England. Rushing there, Peter arrives moments too late,
and watches in agony as her plane takes off. Realizing that his slow
decision cost him the girl he loves, Peter leaves the airport.

Synopsis
Continued from last issue…
During
the rescue mission last issue, Hank Pym was injected with a virus by
the kidnappers! And now his body is stuck at three inches tall! After
escaping a hungry hawk, the diminutive Ant-Man stumbles into a junkyard
and into his long-time foe, Egghead! Why is Egghead chasing his niece,
Trish Starr? Because the deranged genius has a devious plan to steal her
mind! Once Egghead captures Trish and begins to siphon her
intelligence, the situation looks grim. But the ant-like avenger fights
on! Can the Astonishing Ant-Man snatch victory from the jaws of defeat?
Or will Trish Starr meet a horrible fate? .

Synopsis
In need of allies, the Sub-Mariner views the Hulks most recent battle
and decides to establish a partnership between them. On his way to the
surface the Sub-Mariner is attacked by two men aboard a hydrofoil which
unknown to him are under the control of his old enemy the Puppet Master.
Furious to have one of his plans fouled by the Sub-Mariner once again,
the Puppet Master (inspired by a newspaper story) decides to make the
Hulk his next puppet and use him as a weapon against the Sub-Mariner.
On the mainland, the military is cleaning up the mess following the Hulk
destroying the home base of the Lords of the Living Lightning. General
Ross, and Glenn Talbot have brought Rick Jones on the scene in the event
that the Hulk survived the blast believing that the Jones boy would be
able to control the Hulk should he lash out. This proves to be incorrect
due to the fact that the Hulk is revived by the Puppet Master’s
manipulations, and he strikes out at Rick before jumping away, leaving
all present (Rick included) to finally believe that the Hulk is an
irredeemable menace.
Forcing the Hulk to battle the Sub-Mariner, their battle takes them
across the coast, causing damage in their wake. However, the
Sub-Mariners constant immersion in water and the Hulks inability to
fight effectually in that element tip the fight in the Sub-Mariners
favor. While back on the mainland, Rick is brought to a hospital where
Betty is torn between her love for Bruce Banner, and the menace of the
Hulk, which leave Talbot torn as well because if he kills the Hulk,
Betty would never love him.
Meanwhile, the battle between the Hulk and the Sub-Mariner rages on, and
is taken out into sea, where their combat causes a giant enough tsunami
to wipe out the Puppet Masters island base, and defeat the foe. When
the water finally settles, Namor finds the unconscious body of Bruce
Banner on shore. Not realizing that Banner is truly the Hulk, and
believing the behemoth to have perished in the waves, the Sub-Mariner
leaves Banner to his own fate and returns to the sea.
Notes
In this issue, the two usually separate stories are combined to
a 22-page length feature with both the Hulk and the Sub-Mariner. The
next issue would be back to normal, after which the series would be
renamed to Incredible Hulk and the Sub-Mariner will get his own series.
