Synopsis

When the Chameleon disguises himself as Spider-Man in an attempt to
break his friend Joe Cord out of prison, his initial attempt fails. When
reports about “Spider-Man’s” break in at the prison gets to Peter
Parker, he decides to investigate using his press credentials to try and
get the story. When he arrives there, he finds himself stuck with J.
Jonah Jameson and Ned Leeds, who have also come to cover the story.

Meanwhile, the Hulk is bounding through the city following his
last adventure with the Defenders. When he crashes into the Chameleon’s
get-away vehicle, the Chameleon puts on a Rick Jones disguise, hoping to
trick the Hulk into breaking Joe out of prison. The Hulk, believing
that the Chameleon is really his friend Rick Jones, travels to the
prison and begins breaking in.

Peter manages to slip away and change into Spider-Man and attempt
to stop the Hulk from breaking Joe out. However, the Hulk is too strong
and succeeds in his appointed task. However, Spider-Man follows the
Hulk to the Chameleon, where Spider-Man reveals his old foe’s true
identity. The Hulk violently attacks the Chameleon, but Spider-Man
fights him off.

When the Chameleon tries to escape, Spider-Man stops his getaway
car with a web net, and when a police officer tries to shoot the
Chameleon, Joe takes the bullet and dies. After, the Chameleon turns
himself over to the police, and the Hulk and Spider-Man leave the scene,
Spider-Man leaving J. Jonah Jameson with a web-gag parting gift when
Jameson orders the police to arrest Spider-Man.

Notes

  • Inks: some backgrounds by Hunt (uncredited).
  • The Hulk appears next in Defenders #18 (in Italy in H&DIFC # 14) which ties into this story line.

Synopsis

When Matt Murdock goes to meet the Black Widow and Ivan at the
airport, he has to change into Daredevil and go into action to take down
a group of terrorists that have appeared with guns a-blazing. Daredevil
manages to defeat the attackers with the aid of the Black Widow and
Ivan. Reunited, the two lovers quickly depart, leaving Ivan to explain
the situation to the police.

On the rooftop of Matt Murdock’s apartment, the Black Widow and
Daredevil talk about their relationship. Natasha expresses the fact that
she used to be so independent, and that she has become less and less
independent since teaming up with Daredevil. Suddenly, to break up the
tension of their conversation, Daredevil swings into his apartment and
reveals that he has gotten Natasha a dress to attend a special New
Year’s Eve Party in.

Natasha is furious to find out that it’s a party being hosted by
Foggy Nelson, whom she is still angry at for putting her on trial on
trumped-up murder charges. She is about to leave when Matt convinces her
to stay. Foggy attempts to warm things between he and Natasha. However,
this attempt is cut short when the party is crashed by agents of Hydra
who are led by a man named El Jaguar.

Matt slips away and changes into Daredevil to battle El Jaguar
and his men, whom he learns have come to kidnap Foggy. Although he is
injured in the fight, Daredevil manages to gain the upper hand against
El Jaguar, who is beaten to the point where he is fleeing the scene.
Before Daredevil can go after him, he is stopped by Nick Fury who
arrives with a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Learning that the Jaguar got
away, Daredevil is told by Fury that the reason why Hydra is after
Foggy Nelson is because S.H.I.E.L.D. is seeking to recruit him into
their fold.

Notes

  • In this issue (as promised last issue), the Black Widow relocates to New York.
  • The animosity between the Black Widow and Franklin Nelson deals with his unethical prosecution of her in Daredevil #83 (in Italy in DEVC # 82).

Synopsis

When Morbius refused to slay Martine
Stroud attempted to take the axe from him to do her in, but Morbius
knocked Stroud to the ground. Scientist Schmendrick arrived on the scene
and after a slap by Stroud revealed that the dead vampiress’ blood was
highly radioactive.

Stroud told Morbius about the radioactivity in the vampiress’ blood after Martine had escaped. Stroud and Morbius concluded that somehow Morbius was responsible for the atomic vampires and that, unlike Morbius, they were not immune to the aftereffects of the radioactivity, which slowly dissolved them.
